Johnny Carson Birthplace
Laugh Out Loud
He came into many American homes almost every night. He could deliver a line like no other. His Iowa and Midwest roots and work ethic kept him grounded. "My success just evolved from working hard at the business at hand each day," Carson notes on several occasions. Even the King of Late Night, David Letterman said this about Carson, "All of us who came after are pretenders. We will not see the likes of him again...a night doesn't go by that I don't ask myself 'What would Johnny have done?'"
Humble Beginnings
One of the great Iowa places to visit, the home Johnny Carson was born in still stands at the corner of 13th and Davis in Corning, Iowa. Recently restored, the home is open to visitors every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Memorial Day through September or by appointment. You can see the room he was born in, stroll through the house where he lived with his family until he was about three years old, and share memories of your favorite episode or character.
