This old Truck
May is Preservation Month. We have many stories and pictures our Conservation Commission is collecting and displaying in the window at 710 Davis Avenue. One story we’d like to share is “this old truck” by Judy Beckett. Stop by the Lauvstad Building at 710 Davis Avenue for other great stories and pictures of our past.

I was asked to have my picture taken with something that has a special meaning to me. I chose my old truck. It is a 1966 Ford F250 Camper Special. My father, Oral W. Ball, bought it new. It has been in our family ever since it's purchase. We had so many wonderful vacations in the truck. I learned to drive with this truck and a 1956 Ford car. The truck is a 4 on the floor, and the car was a 3 on the tree. My family drove the truck from Colorado to California, Oregon and Washington one summer to visit family and friends. There were 4 of us kids in the camper, on the bunk bed looking out the window above the truck cab (can't do that anymore!) We went to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and many trips to Missouri to visit family and friends.
I am now the proud owner of this 53 year old pickup. It is original as when Dad owned it, including the paint. I've joined Southwest Cruisers to show it off and to go on cruises with other old vehicle lovers. As long as this truck is in my life, I will always have a piece of Dad with me.
