Adams County House of History

Visit a classic, historic Iowa attraction. Discover a trunk that traveled over on the Mayflower or a large collection of military uniforms. Be good or you could get tossed in the 1890’s jail cell still in the basement. This two-story jailhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and showcases the life and times of Adams County residents.

You can see where both female and male prisoners were kept.  They still have the wooden table where prisoners ate.  Check out the windows where prisoners carved their names and kept track of the number of days they served.  Check out the military room that showcases various uniforms worn over the years in the various branches.  See items of Adams County history from the barber’s shop to medical tools, to kitchen items, and so much more.
