Corning, Iowa — A new small business with deep local roots has officially opened its doors on Davis Avenue. 5.21Co Boutique, located at 615 Davis Avenue, celebrated its opening this week, welcoming customers into a space built on family, community, and a powerful story of strength.
The boutique offers a curated selection of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing with a chic western style, including denim, tops, jewelry, hats, accessories, and footwear. The shop also carries a growing kids’ section, featuring trendy pieces for little cowboys and cowgirls — something owner Wendy Edwards says local families were asking for.
But 5.21Co is more than a clothing shop. Its name, “5.21,” carries a meaning many in the area will remember: the devastating tornado on May 21, which impacted the Edwards family’s home and the Corning community. What could have been only a symbol of loss has instead become a message of hope.
“5.21 represents resilience for our family and for this town,” said Edwards. “It’s a reminder that even after the hardest days, we rebuild. Opening this boutique here, in this community, means everything to me.”
Inside the 1,000-square-foot space, rustic fixtures, warm tones, and thoughtful displays create an inviting shopping experience. Customers will find trusted western brands, boutique-style apparel, seasonal collections, and special items like Navajo-inspired jewelry and unique accessories that reflect the store’s modern-western aesthetic.
Edwards says she is especially proud of the welcoming atmosphere her team is working to build. “I want every person who walks through our doors to feel appreciated — whether they’re shopping, browsing, or stopping in to say hello,” she said. “Community is at the heart of this business.”
5.21Co plans to host regular events, new-arrival drops, live shopping sessions, and seasonal promotions as the boutique grows. The shop has already gained a strong following on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, where customers can preview new arrivals and stay up-to-date on store happenings.
The boutique’s grand opening hours are:
- Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Wednesday–Friday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Residents are invited to stop by, explore the new space, and support a community-rooted small business that has turned a moment of hardship into a new beginning.
“This store is a dream that came from a really difficult chapter,” Edwards said. “But standing here now, seeing customers smile — it’s all worth it. This boutique is for Corning.”
