Sample CorningIf you’ve never experienced Sample Corning, you are missing a fabulous night of food and fun. This small Iowa town will be hopping on Saturday, November 14. Great fun for the whole family that includes not only tasty treats, drawings, and a pre-holiday look at new gift ideas, but also the recipes to make the delicious items tempting your taste buds and your waistline.

The fun starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Each of the 43 participating businesses will have a tidbit for you to enjoy. They will also have a recipe card for you as a free gift, just for stopping by. You may discover a new favorite to add to your family celebration.

A friendly welcome, self-guided map, and treat will greet you as you begin your evening with any of the participating businesses. Look for the candy canes along the main thoroughfare which will guide you to each location of participating business.

Sample Corning is a time to stroll with pre-holiday leisure and discover the perfect gift for that special someone. You can saunter among friendly people while selecting a delightful present for your neighbors, family or friends. Linger over exclusive selections as you embrace a favored treasure to create new holiday memories. Mender through Corning’s “Class Act” businesses and enter holiday drawings to win special prizes.

Visitor Comments

Wanted to share some great comments from a recent visitor:

“Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity to visit your lovely town of Corning! I have to honest that I had considered the thought of not attending our Western Iowa Tourism Region meeting. The main reason is the price of gas and the wear and tear on my rapidly aging car. Oh and the fact that I would have to get up 2 hrs early enough to participate in the “Progressive Breakfast” that volunteers in your town had set up for us. WELL, I have to tell you what a great surprise I had in store for me there!

My first and foremost interest as the Johnny Carson Birthplace Home, when I walked in, the volunteers were fairly busy with others who had arrived before me but they made room for me as well! Wow, what an absolute icon there! Then I proceeded to the Icarian Museum, the Corning Center for the Fine Arts and the Corning Opera House! Oh, my, my, I was totally impressed with them all.

The hospitality was exceptional and the food melted right down to my hips! On a personal note the Opera house is a gem of all gems! How excited you must be to have such a place to rebuild and share with others! I do realize that it will take many dollars and much volunteer time ahead for this to be “showcased”. But when it is all said and done it will fit right in with the other beautiful buildings and the hospitality your town has that is so rare these days!

And the room (and food) that our meeting was in, the Turner room, oh how nice!

I even stopped at the General Dollar store for some needed items and they were equally welcoming! No doubt in my mind that I will be sharing my experience with your town for days/months to come!

Thank you for a wonderful day!”

Corning Homecoming

If you missed Homecoming, you missed a great time.  Great friends.  Great Parade.  Great Food.  Great Tours.  GREATTTT GAME! (knuckle biter-but turned out great in the end in double overtime)  Great Dance.  Great Golf.  Great Weather.  Oh - by the way, did I tell you how GREAT it all was? Congratulations to everyone who had a hand in making it a fabulous weekend, especially the students.  A special congratulations to the Senior Class who won the Raider Spirit award for the second year in a row.  The Raider Spirit trophy goes to the class who has the highest total combined score for their window decorations, skit and float.  It was really close this year, but the Seniors pulled it out.  You can plan to join us for next year’s homecoming which will be held October 2 & 3, 2009.  See you then.
