No. 1 Hit at Adams County Fair - Collin Raye

The Adams County Fair was rockin’ last night as first Sara Davison and then Collin Raye took the stage to a packed crowd.  Singing many of his number 1 hits and a few new songs, Collin Raye’s music filled the air along with hand clapping, foot stomping and the general roar of the crowd.

This free concert was a celebration of 150 years of the Adams County Fair celebrating families, friends and fun at the fair.  One southwest Iowa fan also won a car sponsored by R & S Auto Sales.  It was an exciting night with fans of all ages enjoying the music, food, t-shirts, and the company around them.  We’ll be back at the fair today and serving up some great supper tonight as the Rural Development Committee cooks out with the help of the Adams County Cattlemen.  Rib Eye sandwiches, hamburgers, and hot dogs will be served up with some baked beans, chips, fresh fruit salad and a drink, and the Adams County Farm Bureau will be with us treating you to some free ice cream.

It’s another great day at the Adams County Fair.  The first person to tell me they read my blog today and can give me the title will get a free hamburger at the Rural Development supper from 5-7.  (Yes, only the first — I’m not made of money either!) Catch you at the Fair.

E-85 Pours into Adams County

That’s right - for all you E-85 users, you can now find E-85 in Corning at the FSC Mart.  With gasoline prices stuck in the upper range of the “pain at the pump” scale, many owners of flex fuel vehicles in the Hawkeye State have turned to a less expensive and cleaner-burning alternative – E85. During a 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. special promotion and celebration on Friday, July 18, they can purchase up to 30 gallons at the flashback price of $2.85 a gallon at the FSC Mart at 408 6th Street in Corning, Iowa. To celebrate the opening of the first E85 station in the county, the Adams County Cattlemen will have their grill at the station, filling the air with the smell of grilled Iowa beef.

Other event supporters include the Iowa Clean Air Choice Team: General Motors, Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Kum & Go, Iowa Corn Promotion Board, Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Stores of Iowa, Iowa Soybean Association, National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, Iowa Biodiesel Board and American Lung Association of Iowa.

Come to Adams County on July 18th and get in on the savings!

Flight Breakfast

It’s been a great day already in Corning and it’s barely nine
o’clock.  Was up ear

ly to help out at the Chamber Flight Breakfast.  What gorgeous weather for the 4th of July!  They serve breakfast from 6-10 a.m. and already had a crowd of both fly-ins and drive-ins.  We had a great group of volunteers who each take a shift cooking or serving.  The Chamber is also grateful for the volunteer businesses and groups who come out and help guide the pilots to a safe landing and take-off, the fire department and ambulance staff who are on hand in case of emergencies, this year’s courtesy car sponsor R & S Auto, and the many other individuals who make it a success.  We also had guests from the Senior Citizen Committee and the Johnny Carson Birthplace sharing information about various activities that they sponsor.  It’s a great way to kick-off the 4th of July Celebration in Corning and Adams County.  This year was the 49th annual Flight Breakfast.  Make plans to join us next year for the 50th anniversary!  Well, I’m heading out to Lake Icaria now to check out the fishing contest, volleyball tournament, sand castle building contest and more.  It’s not too late for you to head out to the lake either.  The Adams County Cattlemen will be grilling up some great food tonight for supper, followed by Brent Romer livening up the place with some music.  There are free pontoon rides down at the marina this afternoon, and lots of beach time and fun in the sun (Yes, the sun is shining on Adams County today!)  Then when it gets dark, fireworks will light up the skies over beautiful Lake Icaria.  I’ll be out taking pictures today, so if you see me out and about, let me know you read about it here!  The first person to let me know, will win a free drink!  See you at the Lake.
